Winter Term Newsletter:
Season’s greetings, Friends of the Orchestra, and welcome to the Winter term newsletter; I’m sure you’ve been anticipating it as much as a musician anticipates the end of a semibreve.
It’s been an absolutely fantastic term here at EUSO. These past few months saw us rehearsing Vasily Kalinnikov’s lesser known First Symphony and Elgar’s Froissart overture with a moving performance in St Mark’s Church on 29th November (we hope you were there to witness the magic! If not, it is online on our Facebook group). In addition to our usual Tuesday rehearsals, we have formed a tight-knit community with post-rehearsal pub socials, a bowling night, and a workshop with the incredible Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra (BSO) that not only brought us closer as a group but also took our work to the next level. We are so grateful to the BSO for their time, patience, and joy in working with us!
This year also saw a change in management. Our outstanding longtime president Hannah Bradley moved on to other adventures, handing over the baton to our incredible co-presidents Beth and Olivia, both of whom have run a fantastic show so far and are absolutely delightful to work with. A massive additional thanks goes to Tim Pithers, whose incredible musical direction and support has enabled us to perform such complex music. EUSO has been so hardworking overall and is now hopefully enjoying a well-earned break.
None of this would be possible without the Friends of the Orchestra. Your kindness, time, donations, and support are what keeps this orchestra running. We wish you the greatest and happiest of holidays and we can’t wait to hear from you in the New Year!
