Bring your idea to life with crowdfunding
Hubbub is the University of Exeter’s crowdfunding platform, designed to help students, staff and alumni raise funds for creative, ambitious and impactful University projects. It connects your idea with alumni and supporters who want to back projects that make a difference and gives you the tools and support to succeed.
What is crowdfunding?
Crowdfunding brings together lots of people, each giving what they can afford, to help fund a shared goal. Through our platform you can showcase your project to a wide audience and give supporters a simple, engaging way to get involved.
What kind of projects can I crowdfund for?
Hubbub is open to students, staff and alumni raising funds for University of Exeter projects. Projects can take many forms, from student activities and research initiatives to cultural, educational or community-focused ideas.
Your project should clearly demonstrate how it will benefit students, the University, and/or the wider community.
Please note: we’re unable to host appeals for external charities.
All projects are reviewed before going live. We look at:
- clarity of the idea and funding goal
- how well the project is presented
- the level of planning, commitment and readiness shown by the project team
This helps ensure the best possible experience for both creators and supporters.
How supporters engage with your project
Supporters can follow your project’s progress, receive updates, and interact directly with you by commenting or sending messages. Sharing updates is a great way to keep people engaged and encourage further support.
How Do I Create a Project?
If you’re a student, staff member or alum with an idea you’d like to fundraise for, we’d love to hear from you.
Getting started is simple. You’ll be asked to provide:
- a short description of your project
- a fundraising target and deadline
- details of any rewards you’d like to offer supporters
Images and videos can really help bring your project to life, so we encourage you to be as creative as possible.
The most successful projects are those that actively promote their campaign through social media, email or existing networks. Don’t worry though: we’ll offer guidance, tips and feedback throughout the process.
If you have any questions at any stage, contact us at annualfund@exeter.ac.uk.
Fees, Gift Aid and Accessing Funds
There are small processing fees on donations. However, in most cases, Gift Aid covers these costs. Any Gift Aid we’re able to claim is returned directly to your project, meaning you typically receive everything you raise.
All funds are held securely by the University’s fundraising team. Once your project is complete, funds can be accessed as reimbursements to cover agreed project costs.
For guidance on accessing your funds, please email annualfund@exeter.ac.uk.
Crowdfunding and the Exeter Award
If you’re a current student, the time you spend creating and promoting your crowdfunding project can count towards the work experience or volunteering section of the Exeter Award. Register or log your hours via Handshake.
You don’t need a perfect idea or a huge audience to get started
Just a clear goal and the willingness to share your story. We’re here to help you every step of the way!
