For the past 16 years, the students and staff at St. Luke's have found an amazing friend in Beastie, the friendly and cuddly cat seen strolling around campus. Unfortunately, after a short illness, Beastie recently passed away. Having had such an incredible impact on so many students and staff, it is only right that we all come together to help raise funds for a memorial bench in his favourite sunny spot on campus for all to remember him by.
Local resident, Lindsay, had the pleasure of living with Beastie for his 16 years, and has seen first hand the impact he has had on the students of St. Luke's; in times of high stress, low mood or just lounging on campus, Beastie has been there to help comfort students (and I think he liked the attention too!)
In order to provide a fitting tribute, we have canvassed student and staff opinion, and felt that a bench in Beastie's honour was the best way to remember such an amazing cat, and so we are looking for students new and old, staff and university supporters to help us raise the money required for a bench on campus, and better yet the additional funds to allow for this to be engraved as well.
To make sure you know where your money is going, here are the costs for the project:
Main Target: 6ft Bench
6 foot Teak bench, including assembly, Anchor, installation and treatment - £795 (inc VAT).
The University of Exeter Medical School, College of Life and Environmental Sciences and College of Social Sciences and International Studies have very kindly agreed to make a significant donation towards the cost of the bench.
Stretch Target: Bench Engraving
- one line on top back rail (64 characters inc spaces) £4 per letter
- one line on lower seat rail (64 characters inc spaces) £4 per letter
Any additional funds received will go towards the following (funds dependent):
- A sculpture of Beastie to sit upon the bench (grounds approval required)
- A 'Beastie Fund' to help provide additional wellbeing/engagement events on St. Luke's for all students and staff to access (approval required)
