We will not only be Talking the Talk at Exeter - we will officially now be Walking the Walk!

On Saturday 17 May, during World Mental Health Awareness Week, we plan to undertake our first ‘Walk and Talk for Mental Health’ challenge. This will see our university staff, current students, alumni and friends being asked to join us to take part, and raise awareness of the mental health crisis we are all facing globally, in a positive, proactive way.

Who are you?

Staff from the University’s Global Advancement team will gather together to talk, to exercise and to raise awareness of mental health challenges while we support one another! We will also be raising vital funds to support the ChYMe children and young people’s mental health project, a key area of research within Exeter’s faculty of Health and Life Sciences.

Your story

Our walk will take place in Exeter on Saturday 17 May, starting at 8am from our Streatham Campus, and will travel the outskirts of Exeter on two scenic 10-mile loops which cross back through the campus at the end of each 10-mile section…. This means that you have the choice to join us for just one, or both of the two loops! The walk will be led by experts from CIC RVONE, who work tirelessly to support positive mental health experiences through exercise and adventure across the Southwest.

Where will the money go?

All donations will go towards the Children and Young People's Mental Health (ChYMe) project at Exeter. Read more about the work of ChYMe here.

all ABOUT THE WALK

Will you join us? If you are local enough to Exeter (or happy to travel) then why not join us in person on the walk! There is a £10 registration fee to take part (see here), and a minimum of £70 in fundraising to be raised per participant. We will supply a thank you t-shirt and medal for all successful participants and there will be refreshments at the halfway point for everyone taking part!

All donations towards walk participants will be collated here, so please share the link to this page with friends and family who may wish to support you on your journey!

Not local but still want to take part? Then why not register for our virtual walk? Grab a friend and head off for a walk around your local area for 10 or 20 miles in support of our Walk and Talk Challenge! With your £10 registration fee and £70 minimum fundraising target you will be fully immersed in the challenge and will be allocated your thank you t-shirt and medal once you have sent us your Strava log showing that you have completed your own virtual challenge!

With statistics like 1 in 4 of our young people facing mental health illness the outlook is a daunting one. With initiatives and awareness around mental health being so vital, this is our opportunity to actively make change!

Please come and join us! Together we CAN make change to our mental health landscape!
