the pearshaped year in review limited event

Comprising a live music event, physical publication and digital compilation album, the PearShaped Year in Review Limited Event is all about focusing student attention on the music of Exeter - including work produced by both native Exonians, and those studying here at the university.

The live music event will take place at Exeter's prestigiously (and literally) underground nightclub, The Cavern, and will feature a showcase of local and university-based bands.

The physical publication will comprise a selection of new and pre-existing material; online reviews and features from throughout the year, as well as new interviews and locally-focused pieces. With work sourced from across our expanding body of student writers, there will be a varied and diverse range of writing included. We will only produce a limited run of high quality copies of the Year in Review publication.

Finally, the PearShaped compilation will contain the essence of the project's more limited aspects, for posterity. Long after the live music event finishes and the limited edition publications are sold out, a selection of tracks curated by the PearShaped committee will be freely available on Bandcamp, and available for download in any one of your many desired formats!

Who are we?

PearShaped is an online music magazine run by students at the University of Exeter. Established to bring the city's music scene closer together, PearShaped is dedicated to keeping the student body informed of what's happening in the city.

WHY the limited event?

Staging the limited event allows for a number of opportunities:

• Local acts get exposure through the compilation release; some will play in the live showcase.
• Student journalists get their work in print; working with local distributors and promoters, we hope to sell the physical publication in and around the city as well as on the university campus.
• The physical publication will aim to provide wide coverage of the university's music societies, marrying together a previously disparate array of styles and interests under the universal signifier - music.

Where will the money go?

• Printing costs for the physical publication, which is currently in the design/editorial stages and will hopefully be printed in early January. We anticipate the production of a limited print-run to cost around £1000, against which we have already secured some funding.
• £150 in staging costs for the live showcase event, to take place in mid-January.
