The University of Exeter Riding Club are aiming to raise £500 for the benefit of both our current members, as well as non-members of the club who want to become involved with horses. We aim to provide a free horse-riding session at our local riding stables. Riding can be an expensive sport, so providing a free taster session for students and staff will offer a once in a lifetime opportunity for some people.

We also want to offer a welfare visit for our members to Munchkins Miniature Shetland Rescue in East Devon, where our members can interact with the 46 ponies currently in their care.

Who are we?

The University of Exeter Riding Club are a group of over 100 members, with 4 BUCS teams, who are all winners of “Wales and Southwest” leagues, 3 friendly teams and a development squad for future team riders. Our teams have all consistently achieved very high turnouts during BUCS competitions.

We also cater for those interested in more leisurely horsey pursuits, through offering a range of lessons, hacks and other activities which are open to all abilities.

Where will the money go?

The money raised will go towards both students and staff members of the University of Exeter being given an opportunity to experience a 45-minute riding session for free at our local riding stables (Oaklands Riding School), which will take place during Term 2 of this academic year. This will benefit those individuals who have been unable to try horse-riding and want to try it because of a serious interest, or even just for a laugh!

The money raised will also go towards a welfare trip for members of our riding club, which will take place at Munchkins Miniature Shetland Rescue in East Devon. A trip to the rescue centre will provide our members with a unique experience: from volunteering around the yard, to seeing how the rescue operates, to taking the ponies for a walk in the woods. 

This will benefit our members by providing a change of scenery from the demands of university life, whilst being around the animals that we all love. This trip will allow our members to develop a stronger relationship with the rescue centre, providing us with further insight into the way that it operates. This will also allow us to build a good foundation that will enable us to return for future visits.
