OUR PROJECT
We are raising money for our Alumni Day Concert on Sunday the 2nd of June! The day invites University Singers Alumni, as well as current University students, and singers from the local community to join us for a fun-filled day of rehearsals in preparation for a concert in the evening. We will be performing music from Vaughn Williams' Five Mystical Songs and Handel's Coronation Mass, and will be joined by a professional orchestra.
The day is a great opportunity for Singers members, past and present, to catch up and connect, as well as meet singers from the wider Exeter community.
Who are we?
Originally founded in 1969, Exeter University Singers is the University’s chamber choir. It is conducted by Matthew Jeffrey and Joseph Ward, and accompanied by Benjamin Irvine-Capel. Covering a range of repertoire from classical to contemporary, the choir consists of around 35 members who all share a passion for choral music. As a choir we thoroughly enjoy rehearsing and performing regularly throughout the year, sharing our hard work and love for singing in concerts and performances. The choir has a longstanding connection with the local community, with services at Exeter Cathedral, carol singing at Exeter Christmas Markets, Come and Sing events and our yearly Alumni Day, as well as joint concerts with local choirs, such as our upcoming concert with the Budleigh Salterton Male Voice Choir.
saying goodbye...
This year we say goodbye to our conductor, Matthew Jeffrey, who has been a conductor for the choir since 2018.
His years of dedication have been invaluable to the choir; his constant commitment, care, and incredible musical talent have brought the choir to new heights. He has been the beating heart of the choir for years and we are incredibly sad to see him go.
This Alumni Concert will be Matt's last concert with us, and so, we would like to use it as an opportunity for Singers members from throughout the years, as well as other local singers in the community, to say a huge thank you for everything he has done for us and wish him a very fond farewell.
Where will the money go?
The choir is almost totally self-funded, meaning the vast majority of the choir's annual operations are paid for by its members. Our upcoming Alumni concert is our biggest event of the year and this year, more than ever, we want to ensure the event is a huge success. However, putting on such a large event is no small task. Your donations will help towards paying for the concert venue, music scores, a professional orchestra and soloist, as well as all the other various funds needed to produce the event. Your donations will ensure that all the singers who attend enjoy a day of the highest musical standard and that helps to ensure that events like these can continue for years to come.
