Macbeth is known as the unlucky play and, well, we’ve picked the perfect time to put it on. It goes without saying that this has been an incredibly challenging year to create a piece of theatre. Theatres around the world are in crisis as the pandemic has limited in-person performances. Macbeth was initially meant to be a piece of live theatre performed in early February but has been constantly shifted and warped by circumstance. The curse is enduring it would seem. Whilst live theatre will hopefully return in the near future we have decided that it would be very difficult to rehearse and put on a play of the quality that this cast and crew deserves in the time available to us. We have decided instead to create a film of Macbeth. An enduring piece of cinema that is testament to the bizarre times we are living in. This will be filmed in collaboration with the students from Bath Spa University Film Department within St. Nicholas Priory and will retain the 1930s Soviet setting of the original. The claustrophobic and paranoid feeling of this time will be perfectly contained within the beautiful Priory. Macbeth’s descent into madness will be captured on screen in a truncated version of the production running at roughly 1 hour. We hope that you are able to support this production as anything you give will be instrumental in translating this enduring work to the big screen.
Where your donations will go!
The money that is raised will be spent on hiring the venue, St. Nicholas Priory, for a week in May to film. We will also be using the money to rent a vehicle to bring the camera equipment down from Bath and pay for costumes and props for the film.
