Help us mark our 20th anniversary by supporting our fundraising campaign

2026 marks the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Exeter University Alumni Golf Society. Over the last 20 years we have grown our alumni golf network to be one of the largest and most active in the UK, with every event representing the alumni community across all generations.

We have also been able to raise significant funds, circa £200,000 in total, in order to support the student golf team and programme, which has enabled them to consistently be one of the best university golf teams in the UK, thanks to funding being provided for coaching provision, practice facilities, video equipment, travel and competition bursaries etc.

Funding cannot come at a more important time for the Exeter Golf team as you will read below - Every pound donated counts, and has been made up of lots of our alumni giving anywhere from £10 to £1,000. This creates a significant long-term support platform for our golf team to plan from.

Student Golf Programme

The University of Exeter Golf Club is currently ranked as the number one programme in British University Golf and continues to be an outstanding viable alternative to the NCAA D1 route in the USA. The programme has a rich history of delivering a comprehensive programme which caters for beginners right through to elite amateur players.

With six teams competing in BUCS leagues, a friendly team, 25 hours of weekly coaching delivery and a strong social offer, The University of Exeter Golf Club defines many students experience during their time at Exeter and currently services over 230 student club members.

performance programme

As a performance programme the university has had significant success, winning the BUCS Premier League (South) title for nine consecutive years and sending players to compete in the R&A Student Tour Series and BUCS Tour.

In recent years, six graduates have gone on to turn professional and gain status on major and developmental professional tours including the Ladies European Tour, Ladies European Access Tour, Alps Tour, Sunshine Tour as well as a start on the DP World Tour. Two players have gone on to gain full international honours and represented countries in the R&A Home Internationals and the European Amateur Team Championship.

The programme has been heavily financially supported by the R&A over the past two decades, but with a change in strategy this funding is being withdrawn in 2027. This poses a significant threat to the existing offer which we are proud to have developed and worked hard to sustain over a number of years.

This is a new chapter in fundraising for us to support the future of Golf at Exeter in the 20th anniversary year of the establishment of the Exeter Alumni Golf Society.

where your donations go

Our main sources of annual expenditure are as follows, and we need your financial support to ensure we can continue to offer this:

• £20,000 = Supporting players to represent the university in the R&A Student Tour Series (travel, entry and accommodation). With tour events located in Sweden, Italy, France, Spain, Portugal and Scotland.

• £10,000 = Scholarship and bursary funding to support individuals both as students and in their individual seasons

• £5,000 = Maintain and develop facilities including state of the art Trackman 4 simulator on campus

• £15,000 = Coaching delivery costs both directly for golf and support services from Strength and Conditioning to Psychology.

why we need your support

Funding cannot come at a more important time for the Exeter Golf team due to the withdrawal of R&A funding and Golf Tour Series. Support from alumni will enable Exeter to continue to attract student golfers, maintaining our position in terms of ranking and performance, providing excellent coaching, facilities and support to the student golfers enabling to compete on an international stage, or taking up golf for the first time.

Building a sustainable future

Supporters are encouraged to set up a monthly donation, with a suggested contribution of £10 per month. These regular contributions will form a dependable income stream that helps the club plan confidently for the future, invest in essential resources, and maintain high standards on and off the course. We also, however, would greatly welcome one-off donations.

THANK YOU
